Travel Tuesday: New York City (Soho)

HELLO!

I thought that I would share with you my favorite places to go in NYC, specifically Manhattan since I am still exploring the rest of the Big Apple! :)

One of my favorite places in New York is Soho, I always make the same reference from Kinky Boots by saying (or singing) that it is "the most beautiful place in the world...". The area downtown is much less crowded than Midtown and has lots of shops and restaurants all around, and it is just a couple of minutes away from Chinatown.

My favorite places in Soho are Ladurée on W Broadway, even though it is always crowded it is always nice to go into that little piece of Paris. You can either sit and dine at the restaurant, which I recommend to do at least once, or you can simply grab a yummy pastry to go.

Another place that is also really nice, and not too for away, is Housing Works on Crosby St. It is a bookstore (that was on Gossip Girl), with book wall to wall and it is also a coffee shop, so you can always sit down and relax. They always have great deals on books.

Not too far from Housing Works is Evolution on Spring St, which is the most amazing shop (at least to me)! The store sells all sorts of natural sciences/biology related things, like skulls, necklaces with anatomically correct hearts, vertebrae, posters, and a lot more. Even if you don't buy anything, it is definitely worth looking around.

Another place that is very interesting to shop is Bite on Prince St, apart from selling their usual products, you can also create your own lip color. If any of you are interested, tell me if you want me to dedicate a blog post on my experience there.

When you go down on Broadway in Soho, you will easily find all the stores that you need without having the insane amount of people like Midtown, there are stores such as Express, Forever 21, Zara, TopShop, Vince Camuto, Dune, and many more.

It is not too difficult to walk from Soho down to Chinatown, and if you go further down you will end up around the Financial District and The Battery. Soho is a great place to start exploring the south of NYC.

Nails of the Week: Royal White

HELLO!

This week I was thinking of doing my nails with white nail polish, but I didn't want just the white polish, I wanted something different, then I thought of one of my favorite trendy color combiantions: white and blue! :D

So here are my nails:

Here is what I used:

The white polish is one that I got from a kit last year, and it doesn't really have a name. The blue glitter is Essie's Lots of Lux, and I used my Colorama top coat since I thought that glitter looked a bit too rough.

The Essie glitter surprised how opaque it was, it was very packed with glitter and one coat was more than enough!

What are your nails of the week?

Love Hate Relationship: Melissa

Hello!

Happy Monday!

Today I will be talking about my love-hate relationship with Melissa. No, it is not a random girl. It actually is a shoe brand from Brazil that makes really cool shoes make of plastic (that smell amazing btw).
Melissa Campana

The Brand

Melissa is, as I told you before, a Brazilian shoe brand, that are produced by Grendene. They first launched in 1979 and their first model got the name of Aranha (spider). Which were inspired by the sandals that were used by the fishermen of the French Riviera.

For quite a long time, the brand was a huge success in the adult public. In 1986, Melissa started making shoes also for the little ones, and lauched the so called Melissinhas (little Melissas). They would come with special accessories, which make all the little girls want them all the time!

BUT... The brand that I and most of the girls my age know, only started to actually get noticed in 1994. And in 2000 the brand went back to growing more and more.
Now, different well known designer are invited to customize the brand's shoes, such as Jason Wu, Vivienne Westwood, the british stylist J. Maskrey (hers are one of my faves, they have beautiful cristals as detail) and many others.

Now, they also have these cute ones that are for the little ones, which makes me want to have a little baby girl and just make her wear all of them.

My impressions

I've always loved the style of the brand, their designs are beautiful and the stores smell amazing.
Even though the brand has all these amazing shoes, they are still made of plastic, making it a bit hard to be worn. You can of course wear their boots, I've seen it a lot in Sweden, since it is rainy and they are pretty cute. But the ballet flats are a bit harder, specially if you have to walk a lot, my feet hurt a lot and I get cuts and everything since I walk a lot around Denmark. In Brazil I can easily wear them, though. One pro is that they sandals are really cute and they don't hurt at all and they have all sorts of cute designs.

Here are a some of the ones I have:

Bonus!!

Check out some of their ads! It is sooooo awesome...

This one is an old school and in portuguese, pretty funny...

Hope you liked it! You can check out their online store here, if you are from Brazil. Or you can go to Solestruck, which also sells Melissa! :)
Tell me in the comments your Love-Hate relationships! :)

Love,
 Mariana
